Home Menu2024 Charter Amendments
In late 2023, the City Council discussed several proposed changes to the City’s charter. Sunnyvale’s City Charter governs how the City operates and provides services to the community. Amendments to the Charter must be approved by a majority of Sunnyvale voters.
Three of the proposed changes will appear on the November 5, 2024 ballot at the City Council's direction. These items would:
- Replace gendered references throughout the charter with gender-neutral language
- Require 24 regular Council meetings per year versus two per month (provides greater scheduling flexibility)
- Eliminate the voter registration and citizenship requirements for all boards and commissions (removes barriers to volunteering).
