From Nov. 1, 2025 to April 29, 2026, Valley Water will shut down the west pipeline for scheduled repairs. This shutdown will affect all customers served by the west pipeline, including Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Santa Clara, San Jose Water Company and Cal Water. Learn about the project and how we are safeguarding our water supply.

Have a Water Emergency?

Call our 24-hour Water Response Service at 408-730-7400 to report:

The City maintains water mains located in the streets. If a leak or other issue occurs in the pipes that connect the water meter to the house, it is the property owner's responsibility to fix it.

How to Shut Off Water at Your Home

If there's an emergency and you need to turn off the water to your home, look for a shutoff valve, typically located at the front of the house near a hose bib.

If you can't find a shutoff valve or it doesn't work, call the City at the number above.

Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP) and Water Shortage Contingency Plan (WSCP)

State law requires Sunnyvale to update its water plans every five years. These plans explain:

  • Where the City’s water comes from
  • How we will meet future water needs
  • How we will save water during normal and drought conditions

The most recent adopted plans are:

2025 Plan Update

We are now updating the 2025 UWMP and WSCP.

  • Draft plans will be posted when ready
  • A public hearing is planned for June 2026 before City Council review and adoption
