Join Sunnyvale’s Adopt-a-Storm Drain program to help prevent flooding and keep our creeks and the Bay clean. Storm drains flow straight to local waterways, so keeping them clear of leaves and trash makes a big difference. Adopt a storm drain and help keep your neighborhood safe and clean all year.

What to Expect

  • Make a one-year commitment. You may stop at any time.
  • After one year, we will ask if you want to renew or end your adoption.
  • Spend about 15 minutes twice a month clearing leaves and trash.
  • Borrow our tools and safety gear if needed. Tools must be returned if you leave the program.
  • Submit photos or videos of you cleaning your drain for a chance to be featured in future outreach campaigns.

Eligibility

To adopt a storm drain you must be a Sunnyvale resident and at least 18 years old.

How to Adopt

  • Decide on a name for your storm drain

Storm drain names must be 30 characters or less, appropriate for all ages, and respectful. They may not include profanity, hate speech, political messages, violence, criminal references or advertising.
