What is Safe Parking?

The Safe Parking Program provides individuals and families living in their vehicles with a safe, legal place to park and sleep overnight and access to services.

We are currently looking for a location for a Safe Parking site.

Safe Parking Ordinance

We created the Safe Parking ordinance in November 2024 to allow safe parking programs to operate through a Safe Parking permitting process. Read the full Municipal Code Chapter 19.66 Safe Parking Site.

Host a Safe Parking Program

Sunnyvale now allows safe parking operations in the city with an approved permit. You can apply for the following two programs:

• Host a safe parking program on your private lot
• Partner to operate a rotational safe parking program

To operate a Safe Parking site, you must apply for a Safe Parking operating permit.

Safe Parking Capital Grants Program

Capital Grants Program – one-time funding of up to $50,000 for capital improvements and repairs (such as fencing, payment for permitting fees, repaving or restriping parking lot).
