Garbage Service

Your business must have garbage service. You'll have a mixed-waste bin for your garbage, paper and recyclable containers. We sort and separate the bin contents for recycling at the SMaRT Station®. Contact Utilities below to set up garbage service.

Organics Recycling Service

Organics means both food scraps and yard trimmings. Your business must separate food and landscape materials from the garbage. Keeping these materials out of the landfill reduces our impacts on climate change.

Food scraps:

  • You must set up a food scraps recycling service. Unless your business generates minor quantities of food scraps per week. Contact Utilities to find what service needs your business has.

Yard trimmings:

  • You must set up yard trimmings recycling service for any plant materials left onsite. Otherwise, your landscaper must haul all plant materials offsite.

Edible Food Recovery Program

If your business (or organization) generates surplus edible food, you must donate* any that would go to waste. That surplus food helps feed the almost one in four Californians without enough to eat.

To learn if the law applies to your business, visit Santa Clara County Food Recovery Program. Scroll to Steps to Get Started for details.

*Per California state law: SB 1383

Cardboard Recycling Service

Your business may qualify for a cardboard-only bin. You must meet the quality and quantity standards. Visit Specialty's Cardboard Recycling Service for the details. They will check if the service is right for your business.
