Phase 4 - Public Draft Review and Study Sessions
The Public Review Draft document is now available for review: 

• Technological Innovation in the City of Sunnyvale.

We’re reviewing the recommended properties and reaching out to their owners. We’re also working with consultants to complete the final document.

The project schedule includes six phases:

1. Project Initiation, September 2023 - March 2024
   1. We selected Architectural Resources Group as the project consultant. We worked with them to plan the project.
2. Information Gathering and Research, April - November 2024
   1. The Heritage Preservation Commission held a meeting on June 5, 2024. Commissioners provided staff with input.
   2. A public outreach meeting took place on June 20, 2024. The public did not provide any input.
3. Administrative Draft Review
   1. The Heritage Preservation Commission held a meeting on Jan. 23, 2025. Commissioners and members of the public provided staff with comments and input on the Public Draft Review document.
4. Public Draft Review and Study Sessions

We created the Heritage Resources Inventory in 1979. We have updated it from time to time. Our last major update was in 2007. Over the years, some owners have requested removal of their properties from the list. Several properties no longer met our standards for heritage designation. We removed those from the list.

Our current heritage resources relate to:

• Architecture
• Early industry
• Historical events
• Important people

Sunnyvale is the Heart of Silicon Valley. It has deep technological roots. But the list has no tech-related heritage sites. The Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) fears losing buildings of historic value. They began a study to research and find places to include on the list. In 2019, the City Council provided funds for the project.

We've selected a historical consultant for the project, Architectural Resources Group. The consultant will:

• Research and gather information
• Hold outreach meetings
• Check properties for possible additions to the list
