Sunnyvale boasts an active community. You want to play a variety of outdoor sports. This creates an increased demand for places to play. And we want to meet your outdoor sports needs. To do that we're doing an assessment of outdoor field and court sports.

The process includes:

Public input survey
Community outreach meetings
Concept proposals for public review

Our consultant, Verde Design, will help us with this project. We’ll review what sports amenities we already have. We'll learn what other cities are doing. We'll ask for your input. Verde Design will propose concepts for change based on your input. For public input opportunities, see Progress and Public Outreach.

PROGRESS AND PUBLIC OUTREACH

CURRENT PARKS AMENITIES

The City of Sunnyvale parks system has 772 acres throughout the city. Amenities include athletic fields, basketball and tennis courts, gyms, park buildings and swimming pools. These 26 fields and open spaces primarily support softball, baseball and soccer activities. Sunnyvale also has:

12 locations with many tennis courts
16 locations with several basketball courts
8 pickleball courts at the Sunnyvale Tennis Center at Las Palmas Park
Synthetic field (Fair Oaks Park) lined for multiple uses:
- One softball field, one baseball field, three soccer fields, and an adult and youth cricket pitch

BACKGROUND

February 2023 – Council approved study issue to assess the needs for additional outdoor sports programs and facilities.
December 2023 – We released a Request For Proposal to hire a consultant to evaluate current and future sports programs and facilities opportunities.
January 2024 – We selected Verde Design as the project consultant.
Oct. 30, 2024 – We held a community meeting to share initial survey results.
Jan. 28, 2025 - Outdoor Sports Assessment approved at the City Council Study Session.
