Project Status

The Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) and related documents are available for review. The FEIR includes responses to comments received during the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) comment period. There will be more chances for the public to share input as the project moves forward.

The project site is on the southeast corner of Lillian Avenue and Carlisle Way. It is bound by Panama Park to the west and Carlisle Way to the north. Residential developments are to the south and east. The 0.77-acre project site is in a residential neighborhood.

Once working, water from the replacement well will be pumped, treated and stored in the new tank. Water will be distributed through a new 8-inch water line. This line will connect to the existing 10-inch water line.

A post-construction water test involves pumping about two million gallons of raw water from the well. The state's Division of Drinking Water regulations requires a second test. This is a separate pumping of water for about 15 minutes. This will discharge roughly 18,000 gallons into the storm drain system.

The project site is zoned Low Density Residential (R-0) combined with Single Story (S) overlay district. It is designated as Low Density Residential (RLO) in the City of Sunnyvale General Plan. The project site was a groundwater extraction site for CalWater.

In 2016, CalWater stopped using the well. This was due to sanding issues and casing deterioration within the well. The well was non-functional so they removed the 50,000-gallon steel tank.

The communication tower is still in use. It is owned and maintained separately by Sprint Nextel. There are no changes proposed to the existing on-site communication tower.
