Weekly Update
June 18, 2009
With the concrete elements and the steel frame for the new Target store building now complete, work is focused on completing the shell of the new building and outfitting the interior to include fire sprinklers, plumbing, electrical, and heating and air conditioning ducts. The large red erection crane has been disassembled and removed from the site.
Work is underway on the elevator system in the new parking structure on Taaffe Avenue, west of the Target store. Along with parking directly under Target, this parking structure will provide additional parking for Target and the Downtown Sunnyvale area. A pedestrian bridge over Taaffe Avenue will connect the second level of this parking structure to the Target primary shopping level.
Utility connections are being made to the new Target store, including electrical, gas, water and sewer.
Final work on roadways around the new Target store is planned to begin in the next two weeks.
The sidewalk on the west side of Sunnyvale Avenue from McKinley Avenue to Iowa Avenue will remain closed until spring 2010. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of Sunnyvale Avenue.
Downtown Sunnyvale visitors and shoppers are encouraged to park in the new parking structure on the west side of Macy's. The entrance to three new levels of parking is from Taaffe Street, south of Washington Avenue.

Town Center Redevelopment Project Soil
Vapor Removal Continues
The two soil vapor extraction systems, designed to remove the soil vapor contamination under the parking lot and parking structure in the eastern portion of the Town Center redevelopment project, are currently in operation. Extensive sound insulation has been designed into the construction to minimize noise. For the next several months, the extraction equipment will most likely operate 24-hours a day to remove as much vapor as possible. Both systems have been approved by the Regional Water Quality Control Board and have received permits from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Noise will be monitored and regulated to ensure compliance with the City’s noise control rules.
