SUBJECT: Award of Bid #F9904-92 for Truck Bodies for the City Fleet (RTC #99-288)
REPORT IN BRIEF
Approval is requested for the award of a contract to Carter Industries of Redwood City to furnish and install eight truck bodies and refurbish two truck bodies for the Department of Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division.
BACKGROUND
The new truck bodies will replace eight that have reached the end of their useful and economical life. Each of the eight existing truck bodies are at least ten years old and have substantial wear and tear from their many years of service.
The two truck bodies to be refurbished are in serviceable condition, and refurbishment will be less costly than replacement.
DISCUSSION
Public Works and Purchasing staff prepared bid specifications, and Invitation for Bids #F9904-92 was distributed to local firms known to provide the required equipment and services. Three bids were received.

Bid pricing includes base price, sales tax, and delivery to the Sunnyvale Corporation Yard.
Staff recommends award of contract to the low bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT
Total cost to the City will be $81,224. Funds are available in Public Works Account #020700-5135.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that Council award a contract in the amount of $81,224 to Carter Industries of Redwood City for ten truck bodies and authorize the Purchasing Officer to issue a purchase order to that effect.
